MEETING SETH

My Skills & Experience

As a graduate who has taken on a variety of roles throughout his time in University, I know the importance of having a creative, yet analytical mind. I understand that intelligence isn't measured by your ability to do well on a test, but instead resides in your willingness to continually learn and adapt to those around you. I have a Commerce degree from the University of Alberta with a Finance Major with a Marketing Minor. I have goals of growing within the field of Marketing & Communications, capitalizing on my creative vision, analytical outlook, and people skills. Through this website you can find information about my past achievements, activities, and my future goals.

GET TO KNOW ME

Over the past few years, I have discovered a passion for video production, content creation, writing, and marketing. One day, I will use these skills I've developed in some capacity within the sporting world as I have always been and hope to always be involved with sports. I own all of my own camera gear, editing software, and I also own a DJI Phantom drone to elevate my cinematography to another level. I'm a huge movie/t.v. buff, and sadly for my wallet, I have been bitten by the travel bug.

Below, you can find some pictures I've taken over the past year and some of the most recent videos I've produced.

WORK EXPERIENCE

What I've Done

Project Coordinator, Calder Bateman Communications

April 2014 - Present

As an operator, I contributed to the maintenance and improvement of outdoor recreational areas by safely operating a variety of self-propelled and small equipment, performing manual labour and training other staff in the safe operation of that equipment. I managed a three-man crew and helped initiate two new programs with Strathcona County.

Coordinator, Valley Zoo Development Society

May 2016 - Dec 2016

In my time at the Zoo, I was responsible for the coordination, business development, and organization of the Artistic Competition for Zoominescence, a lighting festival fundraiser held for ten days at the Edmonton Valley Zoo in the Winter. I met with clients, developed marketing materials, and worked on the overall strategy for the competition.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR EXPERIENCE

What I Don't Get Paid to Do

VP PUBLIC RELATIONS, ROCKY MOUNTAIN BUSINESS SEMINAR

April 2016 - Present

Rocky Mountain Business Seminar (RMBS) is a 100% student run five day business conference. It takes place at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge and incorporates student delegates and corporates/executives from across North America. As VP PR, I managed all of our branding, social media, internal delegate communication, and content creation/marketing materials. I undertook a rebrand for the 50 year old conference, and in doing so designed all new marketing materials, and wrote a brand guidelines package. I also coordinated a completely different marketing strategy, incorporating more video components of social media, intertwined with interpersonal relationship building for internal delegates.

VP IT & MEDIA/MARKETING, 5 DAYS FOR THE HOMELESS

November 2015 - May 2016

5 Days for the Homeless is a fundraising campaign that initially began at the U of A, but has now grown to over 27 Universities across Canada. It is a five day campaign in which students sleep outside to raise awareness and funds for homelessness in their region. As VP IT & Media/Marketing, I managed our website through WordPress, designed all of our corporate and media packages , created promotional videos, and spearheaded new branding. Our team of eight managed to raise just over $37,000.

JDC WEST, ENTREPRENEURSHIP TEAM

April 2016 - January 2017

JDC West is Canada's largest business competition. Bringing together over 600 students from 12 different Universities, the competition provides students with the opportunity to compete with each other in all facets of business, while developing networking, critical thinking, and leadership skills. We performed over 13 cases throughout our time in JDC, specializing in topics of Entrepreneurship.

VP EXTERNAL, BUSINESS FINANCE ASSOCIATION

April 2015 - April 2016

Developed relationships with corporate partners throughout the year to meet the needs of our members and achieve our mandated sponsorship goals. I oversaw and managed two directors and successfully initiated three speaker series. Overall, I increased our sponsorship levels from the previous year by just over 50%.

EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

My Schooling

BCOM, UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA

September 2014 - April 2017

At the University of Alberta, I capitalized on networking opportunities and really grew my network through extracurricular engagements. The combination of technical hard skills in the classroom and soft skills during executive volunteer roles has really complimented my degree.

BCOM, MACEWAN UNIVERSITY

September 2012 - April 2014

At MacEwan, I had the opportunity to take advantage of the small class sizes and develop strong relationships with my professors and classmates. Due to the smaller size of the business school, there were fewer extra-curricular opportunities. This made it easier to forge relationships with like-minded driven individuals.

CLASSES TAKEN

Business Courses

Over my time at the University of Alberta, I mainly specialized in Marketing and Finance courses. Another area I found an interest in was in Operations Management, but more specifically within data analysis in a consultation capacity.
